Tech expert Geoff Quattromani from the Technology Uncorked podcast offers some helpful advice to prolong the battery life of your smartphones and tablets.

We use our smartphones and tablets more than ever, and we’re becoming used to them running out of battery earlier and earlier. Is this normal?

“If your smart phone is not getting through your entire [nine to five] workday, you’ve got something wrong with the device,” Geoff said.

“Now that could be settings on your phone that you can change, or it could just be that the battery health is deteriorated where it actually is reaching end of life.”

Geoff says that anyone can improve battery life by doing a spring clean of apps, deleting those that aren’t being used.

“By doing so, you’re going to limit the amount of apps that can reach the internet, and ask for new information on a regular basis. That’s less apps that are going to be tracking your location. All of these factors play into the battery life you’re receiving.”

“That’s less apps that are going to be tracking your location,” – tech expert Geoff Quattromani

Geoff shares the importance of going into your phone settings and changing those involving location settings and notifications.

Check whether apps are using location services at all times, or just when you’re using the app. Similarly with notifications, you can turn off being notified of every like you receive on Facebook, and instead save those for when you open the app itself.

“By making those simple changes around location tracking and notifications you could extend your battery life by easily a third,” Geoff said.
